Welcome to our website. We are one of 88 divisions that belong to the California Retired Teachers Association (CalRTA). Statewide there are almost 50,000 members of which 950 are in the San Francisco Division.

Our core purpose is to protect and enhance the benefits of retired educators by support-ing CalRTA in all its endeavors.  We are your Partner in Pension Protection.  At the state and national level, we:

  • secure and support legislative action and reform
  • improve Cal STRS benefits and
  • protect our pension.

At the local level we:

  • monitor district happenings regarding
    retirees
  • safeguard health benefits
  • participate in local political issues
effecting retirees. We do not take positions
supporting or opposing candidates for office
  • award student teaching scholarships and
  • volunteered  48,562 hours in community service in 2009-2010.

We serve or are represented and keep the membership informed of the following groups or organizations and their activities:

  • POB – Protect Our Benefits
  • HSS – Health Service System/Rates &
    Benefits
  • RECCSF – Retired Employees City &
    County of San Francisco
  • TURN – The Utility Reform Network
  • SSF – Social Security Fairness
  • UESF – Retired-United Educators of San Francisco-Retired Division
  • AARP – American Association Retired
    Persons and NRTA
  • WEP/GPO – Windfall Elimination
    Provision/Government Pension Offset

We place great value on socializing and staying informed.  We have quarterly division luncheon meetings featuring guest speakers, scholarship recipients or entertainment.

We WELCOME you to become a member of CalRTA San Francisco 36!  Should you join as a cash paying member you will be our guest at a luncheon at one of the two following quarterly meetings.  If you decide  to become a dues deductible member at $3.50 per month we will reimburse your $42.00 first year membership fee upon notification from CalRTA.  What a wonderful way to socialize with your friends and fellow co-workers and hear the latest WEP/GPO information from Anthony Ramirez, our Legislative Chair and/or Lois Dully, Area XII Legislative Chair.

Tom Collette, Area XII Director attends our quarterly meetings.  As our CalRTA contact he keeps them informed as to “What is Happening in Area XII” by relaying our concerns or questions with them.  He also
informs us of recommendations or changes that might be forthcoming.  This is helpful to our members who don’t have access to email.

Each member receives a CalRTA CONTACT magazine and a quarterly newsletter from the division which is also shown on the Web.  You will find a link to our newsletter in the left column of this web page.
